Chargers Rack Up 101 Points in Road Rout of Red Devils

The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team had six players score in double figures and two record double-doubles as it returned from Winter Break with a 101-63 thrashing of Eureka JV on Sunday afternoon.

The Chargers (12-5) matched their season high for points, which also came at Eureka JV on Nov. 19.

Leading the offensive output for Sandburg was freshman James Jones (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier), who dropped a season-high 21 points and grabbed six records, matching his best output of the season.

Sophomore Deandrey Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) had 12 points and 11 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the year and sixth in the last seven games. Freshman Noah Young (Colfax, Ill./Ridgeview) had 12 points and a season-best 10 boards to collect his first double-double as a Charger. It was also Young’s fourth straight game scoring in double figures.

Freshman Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) had 16 points and eight boards while shooting 7 of 11 from the field. Freshman Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) had 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Ben Stipp (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) went 4 for 5 for 10 points for Sandburg.

The Chargers led 48-28 at halftime and shot 59 percent (41 of 70) from the floor for the contest.

Sandburg will begin defense of its Arrowhead Conference championship when it plays at Kishwaukee at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The Chargers’ first conference home game is 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 against defending Arrowhead co-champion Highland.
